Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY Review
Asus has recently announced the launch of the new entry-level gaming laptop for the Indian market, with the launch of TUF gaming FX705DY and FX505DY laptops. The laptops are equipped with the latest AMD processor and feature Radeon graphics.
Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY is priced at Rs 69,990 and it will be available for purchase from retail stores across the country. The main attraction of this laptop is the new AMD processor. However, the question here is whether it can face competition? let’s take a closer look.
Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY: Design and Performance
Starting with the design, the new Asus TUF FX705DY laptop has been significantly strengthened. Despite having a 17.3-inch display, the laptop does not look very heavy and it is slim compared to other gaming laptops present in this price range. You would love to take it anywhere. The laptop is also a military-grade MIL-STD-810G certified, which means that it has been made stronger and stronger.
The lid is made of plastic and it has a brushed aluminum feel to look premium in nature. Once you open the top, you will see that the display is at least immersive with the bezels. The full-size keyboard gives in the second half and so is the trackpad. Talking about ports placement, there is a DC-in port on the left, Ethernet, HDMI, three USB ports and a headphone jack, while the Kingston lock is on the right. He said that the laptop is mainly made of plastic, but still, it looks strong and premium in this price range.
Coming to the display, the laptop has a full HD display of 17.3 inches, with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The laptop provides good color reproduction and viewing angles are decent. However, it is a little reflective and we also saw some flashes on the screen, which was quite strange in our opinion. But apart from this, the display is decent, although the latest graphics game can have a lower rate of 60 Hz.
Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY: Display
Coming in performance, the Asus TUF Gaming is powered by the FX705DY AMD Ryzen 53550H processor, clocked at 2.1 GHz (up to 6 M cache, 3.7 GHz). The laptop has an AMD Radeon RX 560X graphics card with 4GB GDDR5 VRAM. It is supported by 8GB RAM and 1TB 5400 rpm SATA HDD storage.
He said that the laptop flies in daily tasking like using it for some browsing, or using Microsoft Office and more. You will not have any problems with multi-tasking. We opened more than 20 tabs on Chrome and played a video on Netflix, while Microsoft used the word and switched between applications. The results were decent, though we saw a few minute intervals while dragging the multitasking part. We also edited some light video on this laptop and the result was average.
On the gaming front, the laptop is capable of handling most casual games like a piece of cake. However, when it comes to modern graphics games, it shakes a bit and performance is not very good in our opinion. But still, you can play some old titles on this laptop and some graphics can also play with less graphics settings because the frame rate in these games matters most. Coming in the heating part, the laptop is equipped with hyperbola technology, which has a double fan design that helps in the temperature of this laptop during the long gaming session.
Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY: Keyboard and trackpad
Coming to the keyboard, the company claims that it is inspired by the desktop. The keyboard provides an important trip of 1.8 mm and it is backlit. In our testing, we found that the keyboard is comfortable to use for a long typing session. The company has kept the key fairly and it has also highlighted the WASD key, which makes it easy for you to play a game. Apart from this, the backlit keyboard is also helpful when typing in low light.
However, we did not like the posting of arrow keys, because we were confused between 0 and above keys. Apart from this, the keyboard is quite comfortable in the opinion. This works well by coming into the trackpad and you will not have much trouble in using it.
Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY: Battery life and audio
Coming to battery life, ASUS offers TUF Gaming FX705DY 4-Cell 64 Wh Polymer Battery. In our testing, we found that battery performance on this laptop was quite impressive. Under the use of day-to-day, laptops lasted 7 hours. Under the use of electricity, we found out that it lasted for about 4 hours. Charging speed is good.
On the audio front, it is loaded with stereo speakers with support for DTS headphones. The audio performance is below par of this laptop as it lacked the much-needed bass and the highs are not that great as well. Frankly speaking, were quite disappointed with the audio performance of this device.
